A shorter route into hospital administration, without waiting for Class 12

The diploma in hospital management course in Kolkata is built for students who want to work on the management side of healthcare rather than the clinical side. You are not treating patients. You are running the systems that let a hospital function: admissions and discharge, front office, medical records, billing and insurance desks, quality audits, housekeeping and utility services, staff rosters.

Kolkata now has more than a hundred private hospitals, nursing homes and diagnostic chains, and every one of them needs people who understand how a hospital is administered. Most of those jobs do not ask for a medical degree. They ask for someone trained.

SBIHM takes students straight after Class 10. You do not have to wait two more years to begin.

Why students pick SBIHM over a one-year private certificate

Most institutes selling a hospital management diploma in Kolkata are standalone training centres. The course runs a year, the certificate carries the centre’s own name, and there is nothing to study after it. The degree colleges sit at the other end: they want Class 12 with 45 to 50 per cent, and often an entrance test on top.

SBIHM sits in between, and that is the point.

Typical private institute Degree colleges SBIHM
Minimum entry Class 10 or 12 Class 12 with 45-50% Class 10
Who awards the certificate The institute itself The university NCVRT, New Delhi
University standing None Yes MAKAUT affiliated, UGC 2(f) institute
Hospital training Short internship, if any Varies 6 months
What comes next Nothing on campus Post-graduation Bachelor’s and Master’s on the same campus

You can begin at 16, finish the diploma, and continue into the 3-year Bachelor in Hospital Management and then the 2-year Masters in Hospital and Health Care Management without changing institutes.

Six months inside a hospital, not six months of theory

The industrial training runs for six months and it is part of the course, not an optional add-on you arrange yourself. You are placed in a hospital and you work the desks: patient admission, front office, records, billing, stores, quality.

This is the part that decides your first salary. A recruiter interviewing two diploma holders will pick the one who has already handled a discharge queue at 9 pm.

What you can do after the diploma

Roles our diploma students are trained for:

  • Hospital Administrator
  • Healthcare Executive
  • Patient Care Coordinator
  • Front Office and Admissions Executive
  • Medical Records Officer
  • Quality Assurance Assistant
  • Billing and Insurance Desk Executive

You are not limited to hospitals. Diagnostic labs, nursing homes, health insurance companies, wellness centres, medical device companies, medical colleges, rehabilitation centres and government health agencies all hire for the same skill set.

Entry-level salaries for these roles generally start between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹4.5 lakh a year in Kolkata and rise with experience and specialisation.

Recruiters on SBIHM’s healthcare panel include Apollo, Fortis, Medica, Medanta The Medicity, Max Healthcare and Tata Memorial. SBIHM provides placement assistance to every student; it does not sell a job guarantee, and you should be careful of any institute in this city that does.

How admission works

  1. Fill the application form on the SBIHM admission page, or call +91 9830012536.
  2. Submit your Class 10 marksheet or admit card, Aadhaar, a photograph and your signature.
  3. Appear for SBIHM’s short admission test. There is no national entrance exam for this course, so you do not need NEET, CAT or any other paper.

  5. Pay the admission fee and confirm your seat. Seats are limited to 60 per session and are filled in order.

Frequently asked questions

1. Can I do a diploma in hospital management in Kolkata after Class 10?

Yes. SBIHM accepts students who have passed or appeared for Class 10 from any recognised Central or State Government board. Most hospital management courses in Kolkata start only after Class 12, so this is one of the few routes open to you at 16. If you have already finished Class 12, you can still join, and you can also consider the 3-year Bachelor in Hospital Management instead.

2. Is the SBIHM diploma a 1-year or a 2-year course?

SBIHM offers both. The 2-year track runs across four semesters and gives you more time on the management and healthcare law subjects. The 1-year track is the faster route to a job. Both include the industrial training component. The admission team will help you pick based on your Class 10 result and how soon you want to start working.

3. Do I need to sit for an entrance exam?

There is no national entrance exam for this course, so NEET and CAT are irrelevant here. SBIHM does run its own short admission test as part of the selection process, followed by a counselling session. It is an internal test, not a competitive exam, and the admission team tells you what to expect before you sit for it.

4. What job will I get after a diploma in hospital management, and what does it pay?

Diploma holders typically start as a healthcare executive, patient care coordinator, front office or admissions executive, medical records officer, or on the billing and insurance desk. Entry-level salaries in Kolkata generally sit between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹4.5 lakh a year. What moves that number most in the first two years is where you did your industrial training and whether you can handle a hospital’s peak-hour desk work without supervision.

5. Can I study further after this diploma?

Yes, and you can do it on the same campus. SBIHM runs a 3-year Bachelor in Hospital Management and a 2-year Masters in Hospital and Health Care Management. Many students finish the diploma, take a job, and complete the degree while working. That progression is the main reason to prefer a diploma inside a MAKAUT-affiliated institute over a standalone certificate that ends where it starts.
