Diploma in Hotel & Hospitality Management Course in Kolkata

A Diploma in Hotel Management course in Kolkata is the shortest honest route from school into a five-star hotel job. At SBIHM you can begin straight after Class 10, finish in one or two years, and spend six months of that time working inside a five-star deluxe hotel rather than reading about one.

Subhas Bose Institute of Hotel Management New Town is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), recognised under UGC Section 2(f), and affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology. Our diploma students train on the same campus, in the same kitchens and front-office labs, as our degree students.

MAKAUT affiliated · UGC 2(f) recognised · NCHMCT affiliated · 6-month industrial training in a 5-star deluxe hotel · 60 seats · New Town, Kolkata

Admissions for the 2026–2027 session are open.

Who this course is for

  • You have finished Class 10, or you are waiting on your results, and you would rather learn a trade than sit through two more years of theory.
  • You have finished Class 12 and want to be earning in twelve months instead of four years.
  • You are already working in a restaurant, a café or a banquet hall and need a qualification that turns the job into a career.
  • You want the option of a degree later without closing the door now.

If none of that sounds like you, our three-year Bachelor in Hotel Management is probably the better fit, and a counsellor will tell you so.

Why the entry point matters

Most hotel management diplomas in Kolkata open only after Class 12. The university-route and government programmes go further and gate admission behind a national entrance test.

SBIHM’s diploma opens at Class 10. That is two years of earning time you get back, inside an institute that carries university affiliation rather than a standalone private certificate.

Selected candidates sit a short admission test at the campus. There is no national entrance exam to clear.

What you study in the Diploma in Hotel & Hospitality Management

Ten papers, weighted towards the floor rather than the classroom.

Our subjects

  • Front Office Operation
  • Food Production
  • Food & Beverage Service
  • Accommodation Operation Management
  • Hospitality Accounts
  • Hotel Law
  • Hospitality French
  • Spoken English and Business Correspondence
  • Basic Computer Application
  • Internship and Project Report

Hospitality French and Spoken English sit in the syllabus for a reason. Guest-facing roles in five-star properties and on cabin crew are decided largely on how you speak, so we teach it as a subject rather than leave it to chance.

Six months inside a real hotel

Your industrial training runs for six months in a five-star deluxe hotel. Not a demonstration visit, not a two-week attachment. You work rostered shifts across departments, under the hotel’s own supervisors, and you finish with a training record a recruiter recognises.

This is the part of the course that gets students hired, and it applies to both the one-year and the two-year route.

Campus and training facilities

The New Town campus runs the practical labs the syllabus depends on:

  • Training kitchen
  • Bakery lab
  • Mock restaurant
  • Mock front office
  • Housekeeping lab

You learn service on a laid table, not a whiteboard.

Placement and career support

Over 100 hospitality recruiters visit SBIHM every year. Among them: Taj, ITC Hotels, JW Marriott, Hyatt, Oberoi, Radisson, The Leela, The Park, Vivanta, Ginger, Pride Hotels and Crowne Plaza, along with airline recruiters including IndiGo and Akasa.

Every diploma student receives placement assistance: interview preparation, grooming and communication sessions, and access to every campus drive we run. Placement is offered for both domestic and international roles.

Roles our diploma students are hired into

  • Front Office Executive
  • Food & Beverage Supervisor
  • Housekeeping Supervisor
  • Cabin Crew Member
  • Event Coordinator

The diploma does not end your options

Finish the diploma, work for a year or two, then come back for the three-year Bachelor in Hotel Management and later the two-year MBA in Hospitality Management. Both run on the same campuses, both are MAKAUT degrees, and the six months you have already spent on a hotel floor puts you ahead of a fresher entering the first year.
